Default 98 civic cv boot cover

First, what does cv stand for? I have a slight crack in the CV boot cover. Ive been told if it completely cracks open lube will escape and the CV joint will get damaged. Is this true? What is the cost of boots for both front wheels? Is it difficult to replace?

thanks

T

constant velocity , as for the rest, the cracked boots will allow debris to enter causing even more damage, dont know the cost .

Yeah get that fixed. I had a boot that was cracked wide open, and there was all sorts of crap all up in the CV joint. It makes hard acceleration really bumpy.

First off, still wondering if anyone has changed the CV boots themself???

Secondly, I found on Autozone's site, inner CV boots and outer CV boots, I'm guessing I should replace all while Im at it. They seem cheap, $20 pair, or 40 for inner and outer.

does anyone have some valid info.

All I know is the honda dealership wants $280 to replace the boots.

i would just do the outers (closest to the spindle) i have never seen the inners split or crack. and you can use the almighty zip tie the secure the new boot.
