Default aftermarket tach

I have a 88 civic 1.5 4 spd hb. I am putting a aftermarket tach in and I need to know what wire to hook up to on the distributor. The car is totally stock in the engine and tran department. Any help would be great.
thank you.

Default RE: aftermarket tach

I have a 93 civic that didnt come with a tach in the dash but it was wired for it. I wouldn't be suprised if yours wasn't wired for it as well. I took my gauge cluster out and spliced the tach signal wire from the car to the aftermarket tach signal wire and it work perfectly. You just need to hook everything up except for the tach signal wire, and then like I did, just touch the aftermarket tach wire to each contact of your gauge cluster until you see the tach jump. That will be your signal wire to splice into. If that doesn't work then get a haynes manual and start reading.
