I'm a newb to Hondas. Recently picked up a used 99 civic EX, auto, 1.6L SOHC. Been bouncing around some of the forums, planning to drain/fill my tranny fluid. Looks like you're encouraged to use Honda specific ATF when doing a tranny drain and fill. Is this true, or can we use something more consumer freindly thats not $10 a bottle. Even the synthetic isn't that expensive.

 

Make sure whatever you use is marked that it "meets Honda ATF-Z1".
