Auto Tranny Grinds
You will not believe this one but the half shaft literally snapped in half. It broke right where the vibration damper was attached. The vibration damper actually held it together so I was unable to see the probelm until I jacked it up and it fell apart.
That is just to freaky that they would have somethingon the shaft that could spin free and and literally wear away at the shaft. It was half of it's normal diameter when it broke. I'm sure it was the oxides from rust that did the damage but one would have thought the rubber would have worn outand just spun on the shaft.
Thanks for the suggestion to check the axle. This forum rocks!

I spoke to soon. I replaced the axle and put 5 miles on it before guess what?
Driving down the road and the tranny simply disengages from the drive shafts and starts to grind.
I'm wondering if the other axles splines are ground off or has disengaged from the tranny. It's holding in park this go around unlike the first time so I'm suspecting something internal with the tranny now.

The axle retaining clip or retaining groove must be messed up. The shaft keeps walking out of thre transmission after 5-10 miles of driving. Totally ground off the splines on the end of the shaft because the kid freaked in traffic and left the thing in gear and ground off the end of the shaft. Good thing the gear is harder than the shaft or I would have been screwed. Touched it up with a file and shoved it back in but there's no way of knowing just how long the clip will hold the shaft in place.
It engages when installed but for some reason walks out of the tranny. Auto parts store says it's the right shaft and it does measure out right in length. Any ideas how to keep that shaft engaged or why it's not staying engaged?
