Buying a used part locally, they should have a guarantee on it. If it's noisy or doesn't shift right you can take it back and get another one or your money back.

You should be able to move the shift rod by hand or with a little leverage and select all gears. Also spin the shaft and see if it is smooth. Really it has to be in a car to be sure it is OK.

Do you know what model Civic it's coming out of? Because EX trannys are built for "acceleration" and DX, HX, LX, VX, VX etc are built for economoy. Do you have a preference. If it's the "economoy" kind it'll be stamped with A000. If it's the "acceleration" kind it'll be stamped with B000.

See this link to find where the stamp can be found.

i guess it doesn't matter which one really. but is $300 good buy? most of the used parts place around here sells for $450. They say its for Vtec so i assume its most likely EX cuz they asked ifit was Vtec or Vtec-e.

Put the same one your car came with, or you may get a check engine light as the ECU is comparing road speed to engine speed and the ratios are not as expected.

What? This is a manual trans right!?!? If this is for a manual transmission you can put ANY 92-00 D-series transmission on the car. I drive a 93 Civic and put on a 96-00 EX manual transmission that I bought for 100.

If this is reguarding an Automatic transmission dissregard anything I've said, as I know zilch about auto trans.

A manual trans should run you 100-200 bucks from a local seller or 200-300 bucks from a dick company.

An auto trans shoud run you 250-350 bucks from a local seller or 350-450 bucks from a dick company.

OK I'm wrong then. It must do something to detect if the VSS signal is as expected, but maybe it's not that critical.

My VSS reads properly and I didn't have to re-wire anything. My stock plug for the speedo sensor pluged right in. ne CELs, no problems.
