Default can't get to gas tank

my wife pushes down to open her gas tank cover and it doesn't pop open. she pushes down again and it doesn't click, like it's released but still doesn't open. she tried to pry it open with her keys but it didn't work. She tried to push it shut tighter to see if it would latch again but nothing.

anyone have any suggestions or do i make no sense?

found it...

1. - Pop the trunk

2. - On the drivers side remove the inner clips

3. - Pull back the liner at the top to expose the inner trunk

4. - Reach your hand in behind the stiffener panel and locate the release plunger

5. - Turn the plunger 90 degrees counter clockwise to release the door.

now i just need to figure out why it's not releasing on it's own...
