Default Car won't start..Read on please!

Well tonight I was going out and I started the car up and it started fine, I go to back up and it almost stalled on me. I start down the road and it was cutting out really bad when I would get on the gas. I only went about a mile down the road to a buddies house and parked the car.

A few hours later I get in the car to come home and when I go to start it, it would not start. It would turn over really really fast with a not so normal sound! I looked at the time belt as a friend was turning the car over and it was not moving. you could see it start to move but wouldn't really move. We decided to drift start it incase it was the starter going bad, and it still would not start. Would this be a timing problem where maybe the car jumped out of time and would not turn completely over as if it was to start? The belt is not broken but the belt seems kind of loose to me. Anyone have any idea? The car is now sitting along the road and hopefully no one bothers it until I can get it hauled home to decide what is wrong with it!
Quick info is greatly appreciated cause I have class tomorrow evening and can't afford to miss it!!! Thanks in advance!

I assume the car in question is a '95 Civic. The two pictures here and in my next post describe how to inspect the timing belt for cracks or oil soaking and, if the belt is fine, how to properly adjust the belt tension. A key question that can only be answered by thorough inspection, however, is why did the timing belt come loose? Is there more than 90K miles on the timing belt? If so, it should probably be replaced.

Yea, it either came lose from stretching (belt is old), or you beat the crap out of your car and it bumped a few teeth while you were shifting, OR your tensioner pulley gave way. Bogging/no-start is a tell-tale sign of a timing issue. Check your basics for fuel/air/spark then go for timing. That would be my first suggestion. Also check to make sure none of your dizzy bolts came lose. If your dizzy shifted just a hair, it'll throw off the timing and cause bogging.

Were you on a hill when in reverse? (Extra load on the crank)

Figured it out today when it was daylight and got to take a look at it. The timing belt was about ready for a change which I knew but haven't had the time to change in a new one and it stripped some teeth off the belt which wouldn't allow it to turn over. Hopefully I have it done by this weekend so I can have my DD back and not have to drive my project car.
