Cech Engine Light-Fuel Emissions
Last night my check engine light came on for the fuel emissions control system. Did everything the manual told me to do about tightening the gas cap and what not. Caleed the dealer and they gave me the (We can probably get you in this weekend and charge you $97.00 to pull the code) thing. Researched on here a bit that you can have it read for free at Advanced or AutoZone. Heres my situation the car has 66,000 miles on it and is running fine. It was past Empty on the guage when it was set off last night hardly any gas. So there is no signs of any problems at all no noises, running problems, anything. I'm gonna go get the code pulled after class today and see what they have to say. Im just glad I didn't waits almost $100 at the dealer. Anyones input who has had this same problem would help or could possibly know whats causing the light. I've read on here that there is endless possiblities as to what the hell it could be. I just hope im not in over my head.......Its rough being a broken down college student.
So I went to Advanced and they were happy to pull up the codes for free. The codes read 1. (P1456 Manfacrer Contrl Auxilary emission Controls) 2. (P1298 Manfacrer Fuel Air Metering) They didnt seem to know to much about the codes because they said they were manufacture codes. So once again I called the dealer and they said that the #1 code is due to a vapor leak of some sort and in order to find out what is causing it they would have to do another test with a computer and it will cost $97.00. The #2 code is caused by an electronic load meter or somthing like that correct me if im wrong. They said most likely it would just have to be replaced and he wasnt sure of the part cost off the top of his head. How serious are these problems? Thats my question the guy never answered. Led me to figure they weren't to threatening. Anyones input and suggestions would help. Thanx guys
First i would reset the PCM (they should have done this at autozone but if they didn't go ahead and do it). For P1297, goto the ELD (electronic load sensor) and measure the voltage between pin 3 and ground with the ignition switch to the ON position. There should be 5V. If there is not 5V then comeback and i will give furthur diagnostic tips. The ELD is located on the passanger side of the engine bay infront of the strut tower in what looks like a fuse box. If P1456 comes back, you will need a vacuum pump to diagnose the problem. For furthur referance, whenever you post a problem, be sure to mention the year, model, trim, and engine (and year, model, trim of the car your engine came out of if you do not have a stock engine)of your car.
So somthing weird happend today when i was going to the store....the engine first reved high then got really quiet...I thought that the car shut off then realized the light had turned off my engine was actually louder with the light on and now i've drove it 3 times and the light has not yet came back on...Kinda scary. Do i have really good luck? The problem fixed WTF!!! I don't know I'm happy and confused and yah....
