If I screw around with it and get it running it seems fine. Turn it off and it fires right back up, but let it sit for a while and it won't start. I haven't started it since yesterday so it is cold now and that valve is sticking sure as ####.

well then i would definitely use some Seafoam since you can get it running. Pour 1/3 bottle in gas tank, 1/3 in crankcase, and then while the engine is running suck up 1/3 with your brake booster line (slowly... the engine will bog down while doing this and that is fine, just don't let it die from sucking in too much at a time). You never know, it could help. After all, Seafoam is magic.

Did you check whether the cam and crank are out of synch by a tooth on the timing belt?

That was my next step, but I stopped when I saw the valve hanging up.

If the timing belt has slipped, then the valve is likely damaged.

Did you set the engine to TDC before you determined if it was off? If the timing is proper, the crank and cam will be able to be at TDC at the same time.

Ouch!

I'd still play with it now that you know the problem. Maybe fix the timing and rebuild the head yourself. I'm sure we can find all the specs you need, and you can probably do the labor yourself. You seem handy with engines.
