Default Clutch pedal wont come back up!! Help needed

Hello everyone im new to this forum. I got a 1997 EK civic coupe 5 speed. its got 228,000 miles and still goin but today I put my foot on the clutch and went to put the car in first and it wouldnt go into gear. I turned the car off and pressed the clutch and the pedal went down but wouldnt come back upp. Im thinking my master cylinder is done but im not sure. Has anybody heard of this before or can point me in the right direction?

Thank

Could just be out of fluid. Check the fluid reservoir on the firewall under the hood and add brake fluid if necessary. Then it may start working again or you may need to bleed it. Check for leaks if the fluid was gone. It'll generally leak from the slave cylinder under the rubber boot, or from the master cylinder and run down the firewall inside the car.

Also something catastrophic could have happened, such as blowing the hose from the car to the slave cylinder, or the seals in the master cylinder.

I had this happen in my Jetta and it turned out it was just some cable.

There's not much to go wrong with the slave cylinder other than leaking, and then the fluid would be gone. Many people though do replace both cylinders at once to avoid trouble with the other one in the future.

One guy here did have the lever on the transmission crack and bend, that is unusual but it would cause the symptoms you have.
