I got my clutch replaced about 2 weeks ago, brand new, OEM. I have a 97 EX sedan.

So basically everytime I shift from 2nd to 3rd gear OVER the 4000 rpm range, the gears grind.

A shift done anytime before 4k rpm does not make a grinding noise.

and yes, I'm shifting properly, clutch pedal allll the way in, I've experimented several times. All the other gears, upshifts and downshifts are FINE, at any rpm range.


Any ideas?

I asked my mechanic this morning and he got annoyed and told me not to race my car and not to go over the 3k rpm mark since its an economy car and that I should get a BMW if I want to do that stuff. The main thing is that this didn't happen before I got the clutch replaced. He said the engine puts too much pressure on the clutch and its bound to happen.. since its not a race car.

whatever, wtf is the point of taking a stock civic past 3k, hes totally right, the cars slow as hell. But I still like the noise haha.

 

I think your mechanic may be right.

Is the manual transmission fluid low? Perhaps it's time to replace it.

 

you put a clutch kit in or just a clutch?? Ya also like Ron said you check your tranny fluid?

Don't they change the transmission fluid during oil changes or at every 5000 mile service?

No, I believe the schedule for changing the manual transmission fluid is at 60k mi intervals.

RonJ is correct. I have never had a transmission fluid change done along with an oil change. First of all, they are not even in the same area. Second, the transmission fluid only needs to be changed at certain intervals while the engine oil needs to be changed every 3000 or 5000 miles.

I had my transmission fluid changed recently (1 yr ago)and it has been a lot smoother especially in colder weather.
