Default distributor does not advance

95Honda Civic LX. All was fine. After I place the jumper wire on the Service Check Connector(2p) while the engine was still running to the check the timing.
The Distributor does not advance with or without the jumper wire on 2p now.
Any suggestion would be great. thanks.

Try going thru the whole procedure again to reset everything. Without the connector jumpered, disconnect the battery to reset the ECU then reconnect it. Then start engine and warm up, turn key off, jumper the connector, start engine again and check / set timing, turn key off and unjump connector, now ready for normal operation.

While it is in timing check mode the CEL should be on steady with the engine running. And when not of course CEL should be out with engine running.

THanks for your quick response. I have tried both ways on a different daysto reset the ECU. 1)disconnect the 'backup' fuse. wait 10 sec. reconnect the 'backup' fuse. 2) disconnect/reconnect the battery. I think both have the same effect. It seems to perform better. thanks.

Ck on the timeing advance using the timeing gun.
2P short or open, the timeing position changes upon the acceleration. W/ 2P shorted, shouldn't the timeing position be steady even on acceleration. Thanks in advance.
