Default Electrical problems

2001 Honda Civic EX: Last night I was driving and my gauges on the dash and the radio stopped working. The lights for both the dash and radio were still on but they radio itself and the gauges themselves were not. This continued for about ten minutes. After that they both would go on for two seconds and then go off for two seconds. This pattern of on/off continued for another 10 minutes. After that my engine completely died on me; still had electrical power to everything but no engine, and it wouldn't start again. Pulled off to the side of the road let it sit for five minutes. Started up again made it another mile and the engine died again but still had electrical power. Any thoughts as to what this goofy problem could be?

This is the classic story of what happens after the alternator stops working and the system voltage falls as the battery runs down. The radio is usually the first thing to quit working. The engine will eventually stop because the fuel and ignition systems require electricity.

The alternator was just replaced. Is it possbile that something could be loose on the new alternator?
