Hi, my moms 89 Civic LX did not want to start yesterday, so after checking a couple things out, I thought it could be that the starter was bad since the engine didn't even turn. After I replaced that, I attempted to start, but still, no luck. I then thought it would be the battery since it didn't want to start my own car either, so, I replaced that as well .. and still, nothing. So, now, the engine turns and turns but doesn't start. What could the problem be? Maybe the distributor? Thanks in advance for the help!!

 

check all the cars fuses under hood and under dash

 

all fuses relating to ignition have been checked and they're all good ... anything else I can check? Thanks.

 

check to make shure your getting spark at the plugs

 

i believe that to be the reason why the engine won't start .. is there a method to check if I'm getting spark to the plugs? Sorry, I'm not really mechanically savvy .. thanks again!

 

lol its ok an easy way is to pull the wire and plug out have the plug in the wire and hold the tip if the pluck close to the head and then have some one turn over the car u should be able to c the spack if u have it but be carful not to shock your self hold the wire fron the rubber

 

I just fix my wife mitsubishi colt. The car engine turn but does not start. I thought it the battery too. I also thought its the old belts. I replace the belts but its turn but does not start. So I decide to search for the firing sequence on my car. Also, I found the sequence on how or which spark plug cable goes where on the distributor cab. By the way I did replace the Distributor cab and rotor. After I put all the spark plugs cable goes where it suppose to go. I also pull the spark plugs out and see the condition of the plugs. Justin, thanx for the tip, i'll check it out ASAP .. and import4ever, its funny u mention the sequence of the distributor wires to the spark plugs. I have a weird feeling that might have something to do with it cause everytime I turn the key, I hear a loud bang coming from the distributor, or at least i did before I changed the starter .. I'll give both a shot and see what happens .. thanks!!

 

if all fail.. check your relay.. it sit next to the hood release latch on the left side, hidden from view.

if you turn your key to 'on' position (don't start it), you will hear a click noise, if not then it your relay, but if you hear the click noise and it working properly, then most likely it's your distributor.

Hey guys, i wanted to thank all of u for helping me out. Basically, the battery was the original problem, but I made the dumb mistake of messing with the distributor wires, throwing off the firing sequence in the process, which resulted in the engine turning but not starting. I googled the firing sequence, put the wires in the correct order, and boom, engine starts and runs perfect again! Once again, thanks for the help!!!
