Fast cranking wont start

Default Fast cranking wont start

I have a 1990 civic ef 4 dr. the problem is this i start the car brand new battery plugs wires all the goodies. It has a really fast cranking like it wont even try to turn over. i did the old gas in the intake and it still had no effect. i really have no clue what is going on here and am extremely lost please someone give me help. All help will be greatly appreciated, thanks

When you turn the key on and don't start, does the fuel pump run for a a few seconds. I think during that time the Check Engine light should come on and then go out, but in 1990 maybe it doesn't work that way.

You should check the ignition system next. Pull one of the spark plug wires out off of the plug and connect it to a spare plug. Hold that plug so the metal part touches the engine and have someone turn the key to crank it. See if the plug sparks.

Edit: Don't hold the metal part of the plug, hold the insulated part of the wire. If you touch the metal part it can shock you which will not be deadly, but you shouldn't have any small children around to see your reaction.

By chance did you check the timing belt to make sure it was not broke.I believe this would give you the fast crank and no start problem.

Yeah you can check for a broken timing belt real fast by watching thru the oil filler hole to see if the valve rockers move when you crank. Or take the distributor cap off and see if the rotor goes around.
