fuel problem in civic 97

Default fuel problem in civic 97

hi, i resently bought a 97 civic and it gives me about 2o miles per gallon, i looked it up and its supposed to give me about 32. any sugestions about the problem.

by the way it has an intake and the filter has a small hole.

My 96 ex was getting the same MPG. I have to take into account that I had the A/C on 99% of the time and 90% of my driving is city. Nonetheless, I pulled out the air filter and it was black. I changed it out yesterday and on the weekend I plan to do the fuel filter as well.

Your O2 sensor might be weak....A weak O2 sensor wont necessarily throw the CEL on, making you think that is not the issue.
