Gas pedal and jerkyness problem
I have a 1999 Honda Civic Ex manual transmission and the other day I was driving my car at 80 km/ hour and keeping the same consistent pressure on the gas pedal the car started to decelerate to about 70 km/hour so I pushed down a little more on the pedal and nothing happened then a little more pressure and the car jerked heavily because the car accelerated rapidly. I am unsure of what may be causing this and any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks again.
Is the CEL ON?
If not, you might try replacing the fuel and air filters, if this has not been done recently. Also check the spark plugs for fouling or burning and the contact points of the distributor cap and rotor for corrosion.

yes the CEL is on and I am taking it to a private mechanic tomorrow to get the engine scanned but this problem has been a persistent one and I know that the fuel filter has not been changed in a while so I am thinking of changing that and probably replacing the spark plugs. Thanks so much for the ideas and help!
Before you replace anything, retrieve the CEL codes and note them. Then, clear the codes from the ECU. Drive the car to see whether the CEL again turns ON. If so, retrieve the codes and troubleshoot only those codes that have repeated.
Save your money. You don't need a mechanic to retrieve CEL codes from the ECU. It's pretty simple and only requires insertion of a small jumper wire into a connector located behind the front passenger kick panel (see link in my signature).
