Hi! I am new to this forum. I have a 2000 Honda Civic EX. That is stick shift. It has about 180k miles. Today on my way to work it started shaking badly, and I could only drive up to 60 mph. My Check engine light (which is always on) started blinking like crazy. Even when I am parked my car shakes violently.

I have an oil leak which requires me to put oil in it at least once a week.

What do you guys think could be going on with it?

 

Make sure it didn't run out of oil. An oil leak that large needs to be repaired, leaks never get smaller by themselves only larger.

Flashing CEL means the engine is misfiring, which you already know from the shaking. Usually this is ignition related. Check that all the spark plug wires are plugged in. If one has lifted out of the engine it means that the corresponding plug is loose or broken. Anyway, remove the plugs for inspection, and if they are old replace with new ones. Keep track of which plug was where. When one plug looks a lot different from the others it means there is a problem specific to that cylinder.

Also don't drive any more like it is, it can cause further damage. Find out why the CEL was always on before.
