Default help with 89 civic

Hi, I am working on a 89 civic which I replaced the long block in, block is d15b2. I cant set the distributor to number one cylinder at tdc and when I turn the motor over with no plugs, gas shoots out of number 4 cylinder. with plugs in, gas pours out of air chamber. any help will be appreciated.

The timing belt must be way off. At TDC1, the slot in the cam that engages the distributor should be vertical (relative to the head, since the whole engine is tipped forward when mounted in the car.)

When setting the crank to TDC, use the little dot on one of the timing belt pulley teeth, not the key slot. Also you can take the #1 spark plug out and probe the top of the piston to confirm TDC.

Gas should not be pouring out anywhere. Confirm the injectors are not stuck open and there is no leak in the fuel pressure regulator to the small vacuum hose on the back of it.

If I use the dot on the timing belt pulley does that not cancel out the marks on the crankshaft pulley?

Pull distributor and check the slot in the cam. The pulley end of the cam may be missing the pin that keys it to the pulley.

Is the rotor screwed to the distributor shaft like it should be?

MK378, I think you hit the nail on the head, the cam shaft sprocket looks sheared, I have another one in good shape.
I will swap them and let you know what happens. thanks a bunch.
