I just bought a 99 civic exA/Tfrom the impound. I replaced all that was stolen, but now Its seems to have a problem that I can't figure out.

When I start the engine the RPM's shoot up to 3k,once the engine warms up, the RPM's drop to about 1k, then shoot up to 3K again, and this just keeps going, and going.

When I bout it it did not have the distributor, do I bout a wrecked 99 ex 5 Speed, and took the distributor from that one, and put it on mine. I do not know if it makes a difference on the distributor that I took it from a 5 speed, and installed it on a A/T. That is the only thing I could think of. The wires were cut, but I wired them all back correctly.

 

Could be air in the coolant system, try bleeding it.

 

I once had a similar problem on a ford, it turned out to be the AIC (air idle controller, or air in controller... something like that). It was a quick fix, and pretty cheap too.

 

that same thing happens to my civic when the battery goes dead and I Get a jump start....


we usually have to restart it right after its been jumped then the RPMs will chill down...

but if we dont it does the same thing for about 10 min and the RPM's will stay up there.
