Default Help me stop the tire rubbing

I just bought my first Civic (95 EX). It is lowered, but the front tires have a tendency to rub when I go over bumps. Any idea on how to fix the problem, as in what is the cheapest or easiest way to do it. The tires that are on currently on it are 17 in. Sorry to sound like such a newbie, but I'm just starting out. Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forum!! What size 17s? 205-40-17 should be your ideal size. 205-45s will have a greater tendancy to rub, it may just be too low, or worn/weak shocks.

If that's right, then you have 18s and not 17s.

Does it have alot of bounce to the ride? If so, even if you get stock shocks ( that are new of course), it will give you a better ride and even if you hit bumps, it may not sag or bounce too much.

Yeh, with the 18's you really have to drive carefully. IMO, the perfect size for a Civic is 16's so that you still get performance, as well as a comfortable ride.

It bounces quite a bit and squeaks a lot too. I think I'll pick up some new ones at the car show that is by my house in a couple weeks, that and a muffler. By the way, are those cheap $3.00 mufflers you see on ebay any good at all? I'm not looking for anything fancy. All I have right now is a straight pipe going, and don't feel like being pulled over for it.

They'll probably keep the cops quiet, but I doubt they'll pass any emissions testing.

What brand springs do you have? If your springs are squeaky and bouncy, then they are more than likely some real cheap ones. (Dropzone) Then they could just be worn. A lot of springs have the tendancy to settle to a much lower height than original specs claim. But, it's definitely time for some new lowering springs. There are plenty of brands out there that don't bounce a lot and squeak. Good luck![sm=smiley20.gif]
