then you're due for a valvetrain adjustment, or if you like, a swap if the motor has been driven very hard in it's lifetime.
What does a valvetrain adjustment involve?

Should the valve clearances be checked first?

Yeah, I was asking the questions as I thought you might want to know ej6buddy's answers. I was also curious myself.

sorry, must be a miscommunication, when i say "valvetrain adjustment", i just mean readjusting the valve clearances, that's just always been the way i say it. as for the head, for that price, i'd just look into a whole new long block for sale.

ya i thought about doing the whole new motor thing.. i did that on my 1st gen eclipse along with a mirage tranny for it..... hell i have a b18 c sitting at my buddies that belonged to a former friend of ours that has a bent rod but id really like to stay with the d series..... so hell i might just rebuild the b18 or do another d series and just build up the one im running now..... im just on a budget right now cause i live in oklahoma, getting married next month and planning on moving up to south dakota in july..... so right now im just tryin to do everything i can to make sure this lil ****ball coupe of mine will make the journey.......

parts replaced so far...
exhaust manifold
o2 sensor
both cv's
front calipers and padsv v
2.25 in piping from the cat back
pcv valve
fixed the odometer
radiator
tappit cover seals
plugs\wires\cap\rotor
