Default PCM/ECM 02 civic

I'm starting a new thread to see if anyone can help with this topic. The cause of my AC issue is a bad PCM. My paperwork from the dealer says PCM/ECM, is this 2 seperate items or just different name for the same unit? Also, does anyone know what the part number is? I have the 1.7L vtec motor, EX manual transmission. I worried about the programming after install, but I see Ebay has some ECM's with chips in them for programming, is this what I need? This is a new area for me, but I'd really like to learn as the dealer quoted me at $750 for just replacing the PCM/ECM and I think there's an additional charge for programming it.

I think you just need a stock replacement ECM/PCM (single unit), with no chips or programming required to my knowledge.

Look here:

When you know the precise stock part name/number, then compare prices on eBay.

The dealer wrote on my sheet "All keys will need to program so ECM can see the keys", thats the only reason I thought something had to be programmed. Thanks for the link, that should narrow down which part I need.

Not absolutely sure, but I think the key programming you mention is done through the key rather than the ECM.

I just don't want to get the ecm installed and not be able to start the car. Can I program the keys to the car myself?

That should get the remotes working, but I believe the transponder ID's for the keys themselvesare stored within the ECU or immobilizer unit. I dont know if this is something I can clear using a scanner or if the only option is going back to the dealer.

Thanks again RonJ for the diagram. I guess I'll buy the ECM and see what happens. Hopefully I won't have to go back to the dealer or be towed back.
