Default Honda 100 month battery

I purchased a used 2010 Civic EX-L two years ago that my daughter has out of state. The car wouldn't start, so I suspected the battery needed to be replaced, so she took it to the Honda dealership.

The battery is a 100 month battery. There are no date dots removed, but there is an orange sticker with "8/18" on it. Since we're only 54 months into the warranty, I thought the price would be adjusted, but the dealership told my daughter that the orange sticker is the expiration date, so she would be responsible for the entire cost of the battery.

Is this correct? I've never heard of expiration date stickers on car batteries.

Expired battery date

100 months after 2010 would be in 2018, that's definitely the expiry and that's likely the battery that came with the car when it rolled off the assembly line. it's gone much further than it was marketed to, which is certainly an accomplishment. time for a new battery, and unfortunately it won't be covered. :/
