Idling Problem

Default Idling Problem

I finally got my EG running and now i have idling problems the car starts up an idles up to 1800rpms and then begings to surge shortly after im thinkin its in the iacv any other suggestions if thats not the case the problem causing it not to run has nothing to do with the situation so any hints might help my day smother tommorow when locating the problem thanks by the way in a 94 d16z6

Also:

1) Check and clean the fast idle valve on the throttle body

2) Look for intake air/vacuum leaks

3) Bleed the cooling system of possible trapped air

Another possibility is the throttle cable too tight, holding the throttle partway open at idle.

Take the air intake duct off of the throttle body and note there are several holes in the side before the throttle plate. The one on the bottom supplies the fast idle valve. The one on the back goes to the IACV. You can block those with your finger and see if the engine slows down. If no air is going through those normal bypass paths, it must be leaking in somewhere else. A vacuum leak anywhere will cause idle speed to increase out of control.
