Default improve gas mileage?

My 98 civic dx with 75k miles gets around 30 mpg for everyday driving. I don't drive on highway, most of my driving is around town and up to 65 on a brief stretch of a road. I hear people with civics getting 35 to 40 mpg, and was wondering why my car isn't getting that

i've read that most 6th gens do not seem to get much better than that. I normally get around 32 in every day suburb driving. obviously higher on the highway.

dito..... thats pretty typical for winter driving....
ive been geting about 4mpg less lately since it got really freaken cold out BUT i got my headlights and heater cranked almost all the time when im driving so that puts more of a load on the alternator which inturns puts more of a load on the motor.
and second i used my remote starter alot lately

best ive got in a stock ek is 38mpg all highway cruisen... with mostly city worst ive got was like 25mpg mostly city.

to improve gas milage your best thing to do is improve your driving habits....

I let my car warm up 5-10 minutes almost every time i drive during the winter. My mileage has went down alot in winter. I'm lucky to get 250 to a tank(at 215 right now and it's close to empty). Do you think the combination of letting my car warm up, winter, and blasting heat is why my mileage is like this. Last yr when i first got my car i got about 33 with a combo of highway/city. I figure it's better to let it warm up in the long run.

Yeah seriously be happy you get 30 mpg in the winter. I get 23 mpg during the winter and like 25-26 during the summer.

Sounds like reasonable mileage given you're warming your car up (5 to 10 minutes is a long time), it's cold out, 4 cylinders don't produce a lot of heat relative to other engines, etc... .

Do you have a block heater? They're worth it when it's very cold, and help your tiny 4 banger warm up faster.

ya its winter. you will get your worst milage right now.... its because of the cold, even if you dont warm your motor up before driving. as well as the heat and fan typicaly on blast and your headlights being ON alot more... it puts alot more of a load on the alternator which drags down the milage just like the AC does in the summer.
