Improve Gas Mileage ?
Hello Everyone, New member. I have a bone stock 98 Civic Ex 1.6 sohc vtec engine. I travel 80 miles every day to work and back.(250K almost flawless miles) I am wondering if there are any tips for better gas mileage? Header, exhaust system, cold air intake etc.. not new to the import scene just new to this forum. Reason I ask; sometimes the best gas mileage is with factory set up, mods some times defeat this. Did spend some time in FAQ's, and some other informative reading, but nothing specific to my request. Thanks 4g63rc:

basically anything that prevents your engine from working as hard will give you better gas mileage. The best thing you can prolly do is a full 100k mile tune up. besides this, some things that will help your gas mileage are:
-Intake/header/exhaust
-less crap in your trunk
-smaller or lighter wheels
-proper tire inflation
-driving habits(slowing and accelerating alternately at highway speeds when passing cop hideouts will take its toll on your gas)
-use of the A/C (i have heard it saves gas to leave it off, but i could be wrong)
-getting the carbon build up out of your engine
Im sure there are other things you can do also that i havnt considered.

The show Mythbusters did that test: conclusion was, A/C off and windows down FTW at any speed. Unless you're a sadist it's OK to roll down the windows, windows up vs. down was not a measurable difference.
