Key stuck in ignition of 2000 civic sedan
Hi my key is stuck in the ignition of my 2000 honda civic sedan. It doesn't turn all the way so I can't pull it out of the ignition. It's done this before and I've been able to get it out by simply turning my car on and off again then it turns all the way and I can take the key out. However, my car isn't starting this time and the key is still stuck. It's all the way in park so that isn't the issue.

There is a switch on the shift lever which activates a solenoid at the key switch and allows you to turn the key all the way to lock and remove it only if the selector is at park. You should hear a clicking near the key when you shift from park to reverse and back with the engine off. Also I think if you were to disconnect the battery (engine off) that would de-energize the solenoid and allow you to remove the key if that's the problem.
But if it's also balky going to start and run that sounds like the cylinder and/or key are worn out.

I work at a car dealership and i ran into the same problem on a newer civic and some how the chip in the key got erased and we had to reset the computer and key and reprogram it to recognize the key again. i dono if that year would have that same feature or not
