Default leaking trunk

1995 Honda civic dx, 4 door, 5 speed 134k miles

Okay so some how my trunk is leaking. Ive checked the foam seal that runs around the trunk lid and that is find, but what I did notice after a more thorough investigation is that the carpet appears to be most damp towards the drivers side tail light. How does one go about fixing a taillight that is letting in water?

I lifted the carpet and checked underneath to see if the spare tire area was wet, but it was bone dry.

Also, something else I noticed, is that moisture in the form of what looks like condensation is gathering on the underneath of the trunk lid. I doubt that's normal, but could that be a side effect of any moisture leak?

Thanks for your help.

Cheers

You need a new gasket for the tail light. Also check the condition of the body seam sealer around the trunk rubber molding. I just bought a 97 Hatch and it has very small leak when it rains. The seam sealer at the end of roof seam near hatch door had weakened. It a very small crack which I need to clean out the old sealer and reapply some new sealer.

It's not the taillight letting water in. Pull the trunk carpet back and look near the taillight. There is a plastic vent with a rubber flap, and its job is to... well, vent your trunk. Sometimes water leaks in at the seam where the vent's plastic shroud meets the body of the car. The best way to fix this is with clear silicone sealant (RTV) by taking the vent out, running a bead of RTV all the way around the shroud where it would meet the body of the car and then put it back in.
