Default License lights, help!

Hi, just tried to connect a new light to my rear license plate lights so i could move them, and they would not light up, so i plugged my old ones back in and now they wont light up either. So i checked the fuse for the license plate and it was ok, changed it just incase n checked the lighhs again, it still didnt work.
Wondering if any one can give me any ideas please?
