Mechanic didn't use Honda ATF
Hi. I went to get my transmission changed (not flushed) and i asked the guy if they use honda atf. He said they use some other brand but it's compatible. I thought..ok no big deal. then i come on the internet and hear all these horror stories. USE HONDA ATF OR DIE!! stuff like that.
my question is should i be upset by this? should i rush out and change it again with HONDA ATF? should i wait until my next transmission change and ask for HONDA ATF?
btw i drive a 1996 honda civic automatic with 150k miles on it.

ROFL@ Use honda ATF or die!
I can't blame you for saying that. They do say something close to that or "Use Honda ATF or once you turn the key it will create an atomic explosion that is 200 times larger than an exploding star!!!!!!"
But seriously...honda atf has additives that no other fluid has. Its kinda like using 0w-10 for your engine oil rather the recommended 5w-30. Your transmission will be alright with any brand of transmission fluid but it'll be alright for a shortened life. Use the honda stuff..honda didnt make their own atf for nothing.

My transmission shifted rough , I drained and filled with Mobil one fluid.
Instantly it shifted smoother.
Of all the people I know that drive civics, Never heard of a transmission failure.
