when i start the engine and let it run for like 10 min the thermostat needle never moves it stays on cold what could cause this?

 

Most civics/cars in general do this especially in the winter. My old crx would take literally 20 minutes sometimes just to heat up. Aslong as it doesn't take much longer than that you have nothing to worry about =]

 

On a very cold day, it may take some time for your engine to warm up; however, if your engine is unable to warm up or takes an excessive amount of time to do so, then your thermostat may be stuck open/defective and you should replace it.

 

remove thermostat, place in boiling water. the thermostat should spring open as the temperature rises.
