Default Necessary to upgrade my clutch?

I'm in the process of getting stuff to swap my d16y8 into my hatchback.
Thinking of going with my 89 Civic Si transmission which has slipping issues.
I have a chance to get a brand new OEM friction and pressure plates, release bearing, pilot bearing for $150 which isn't bad, but am I better off getting a stage 1 or 2 clutch? Motor is going to be stock for a while, so is it worth doing now?
What clutch kits will work with my transmission? The ones I see are for 90-00 and not for 89, is there a difference?
