Default not passing emissions

I bought a 2014 honda civic xl which am totally in love with..but can't seem to pass emissions here in TN...just failed the 4th time after even driving it to Michigan and back..something about monitors not ready, catalyst and oxygen sensor? Is this a easy fix or should I just sell and try for another?

based entirely on your wording it sounds more like the shop is either stupid or trying to rip you off. your choice of wording only means the car hasn't triggered that particular self diagnostics. certain systems go through a self check during certain times while the car is running. certain events trigger these automatic self tests unless the car specifically sees something wrong. during an inspection and emissions test i believe the car needs to be up to temperature a sniffer will be in the tailpipe and an emissions test reader will be plugged into your obd 2 port. if the sniffer passes and the reader doesn't see any faults the test should pass with flying colors unless your car is modified. if your not modified it sounds more like the shop doesn't know what they are doing or they are trying to tell you there's something wrong when there isnt.

Get yourself a bluetooth OBD2 dongle for your phone (if not an iPhone, they only work on Android AFAIK) and check yourself using the Torque app.
