How hard would this be to change out on a 2000 Civic EX auto? I have acces to a lift and plenty of tools. I notice when I was changing out my header that I have the same oil leak pooling on the transmission side underneath.

Alot of people dont realize the importance of changing out the rear main seal when doing a clutch. Most mechanics dont even bring it up.....You must tell them to do it!!
The rear main was the only leak I ever had on my civic, I had it replaced at the same time when the clutch was out.

I can't believe that much oil can leak out of the rear main without causing a puddle. How many miles on the motor? Did you buy it used? If so, the previous owner could have neglected the routine maintenance.

ya i think the one that came on that motor was leaking.LOL spray brake cleaner and a old toothbrush works great to clean it up! i would always recomend cleaning it up before puting it all back together!

well the higher you tend to keep your RPMs the more oil the motor can burn.....
but if you dont see any exterior leaks then the rings might just be geting old and worn.
try some ENGINE RESTORE stuff in the oil which might help alittle.
engine restore? You can only put it in when you get an oil change? i mean if i poor it in now i will be adding to much oil in? Ill give it to my mechanic when i get an oil change?

well if your due for a oil change pretty soon then i would wait. but if youve changed it recently and your oil level is geting alittle low then id just go ahead and add it. youd want to add it to a few oil changes to give it some time to work.
