Default overheating

Hey everyone,

im new to the forum and ive been seaching high and low for some help before i spend a fortune!!
i have a honda civic automatic 1996, when i was on the freeway it started to get hot. the radiator was flushed and cleaned (its actually a fairly new radiator) and we got a new thermostat.

it only seems to get hot when it goes over 100kms - so ive been driving like a grandma on the freeways

could it be the transmission or could it just mean my water pump might need replacing???
i desprate for help!!!
thanks everyone

The trans would have nothing to do with your car overheating, the best bet would be the water pump.

Are you losing or burning coolant?

Does the heater work?

Have you tried bleeding the cooling system?

thankyou for replying
my heater works well
the radiator was flushed and fully cleaned, it doesnt seem to use all the coolant and my reserve has stayed normal- no less has gone

it makes no noise when it starts to over heat,- but i do have to put water and coolant in when it does start to over heat.

its fine if i drive at 100 but anything over and im talking 105 it gets really hot.

Flushing is different than bleeding. Did you bleed the cooling system of possible trapped air?

if you didn't bleed the system it could do that and Honda hate air in the cooling system...

Also, a bad radiator cap won't hold pressure, but typically, the antifreeze will boil out the reservoir at some point. A cylinder head gasket leak could raise coolant temps and a radiator shop or auto repair garage can test the coolant to see if combustion gasses are getting into it.

You mention 100 kms; that's way faster than a Bugatti Veyron's top speed, which is about 250 MPH.......
