Default Question about timing belt/waterpump replacement

OK I have a 97 honda civic ex with a dual overhead cam, not the V-tech, ok question, is my motor if it breaks a timing belt will it trash the motor or is it safe from that, can't remeber what they call it, had one in my 79 civic where it wont trash the valves and such.I have a 2000 model motor and it has 75,000 miles on it, should I wait till 100,000 to change these?

yes, I believe that all 6th gen civic have interference engines in them.

you will get differing advice on when to do it. I personally would wait until 100k miles or maybe 90k miles. that's when I did mine.
