Default RPM Gauge Going Crazy

Ok So I Have A 98 Honda Civic EX That For Some Reason Like A Month Ago The RPM Gauge Meter Starts To Randomly Jump No Matter What. It Does Not Affect The Engine Is Just Bugging The Hell Out Of Me Seeing It Jump From 2G's RPM To Over 4G's. So Any Ideas What The Problem Would Be? Remember That Even Though The Gauge Is Going Crazy My Engine Has No Acceleration To The Gauge.

Blacknight, looks like we might have a similar problem. My problem is with the speedometer though. When I touch the brake pedal it goes up to like 100mph, and also my whole dash is bugging out, all the lights are on and flash, but the car drives fine.

I posted a little after you, looks like nobody has an answer for us. I'm gonna search some other forums, and I will write you back if I find anything out, please do the same for me here if you come up with any answers.

Thanks.

The tach itself seems the most likely culprit if that is the only part that acts up. Also take the cluster out and make sure it is securely plugged in.
