Default Scraping noise?

Hi all,
We have a small problem with our '96 Civic, nothing that affects its driveablility, it is just annoying. Anyways, when you take a turn at low speeds, either direction, we can hear a scraping noise coming from the front brakes. Has anyone else come across this?

Also, how can you tell if your CV boots are bad?

Anyone have any good recommendations for good inexpensive brake rotors and pads? Ours are warped!

Thanks for reading!!

millscivic: you don't have to touch the brakes to hear the scraping noise, you can turn the wheel and hear it anytime, it's just really noticeable at low speeds.

gwl: this is my g/f's car. She now has an Xterra that she drives daily so I get to play with the Civic. We have no idea when the brake pads were replaced.

Thanks everyone for looking and your replies.

Anyone have any ideas? TIA!!

The reason I said brake pads because one time I used some from a part store that would make a bunch scrapping noise. I think it also created a lot more brake dust.

Well, we got our Civic looked at, and it needs everything. The pads are bad, rotors are warped, and the calipers are sticking causing that scraping noise. The CV boots are dried and shot, and the axels will need replacing at the same time. Bill came to be in the $700 range for parts and labor, which isn't bad. Not only that, two of the tires are near bald, at least they aren't expensive. And just to top things off, the A/C needs to be re-charged and the motor on the driver's side window on my g/f's Xterra quit working. [&o]
