Default setting timing

I'm about to check my timing, and I have a couple questions after reading the DIY.

The pointer - In the DIY it says to be directly over the pointer, the service manual says that the botton pointer needs to be in the middle of the top pointer when you are looking down, which means that you aren't looking directly down at it. And the DIY makes no mention of the bottom pointer.

Anyone care to clarify?

Default RE: setting timing

You have to be looking directly down through the top pointer so that the bottom pointer is in the middle of the "v"

The DIY doesn't say anything about looking perfectly perpendicular to the ground.
