chances are, your shiftknob is loose on the shifter. If thats not it and it seems further down than that, check the shift linkage where your shifter joins up. Worst case scenario grab a short-shifter kit and see if that worse. Maybe your rpms are too low when you shift into 3rd/5th?? I know its a stupid suggestion but im not sure how familiar you are with cars. Kinda like someone who knows nothing bout computers: if it wont turn on check the power cord.

Also, dont worry about asking questions. Its what the forums on the interweb are for.

I had a similar prob and it was that torque bar that runs from the shifter to a mounting point on the tranny. runs right along side the actual shift linkage. Had a worn rubber bushing so I wrapped it in electrical tape and forced it back it. Good as new!

Check the **** first tho its prolly that.

So it sounds to me like the shift **** is loose and/or doesnt fit the shifter correctly. If it feels like the shifter is loose and hitting the inside of the ****, then its your ****. Either it doesnt fit or its all screwed up. Is it the stock one?

Yes it is stock one, also when tightening does it ever stop at one point or can you with force keep turning?

it should get to a point where you can't turn it anymore, as you'll bottom out the threads on the ****/shifter

if it never stops turning, perhaps the threaded insert has come loose from the **** itself?

turns out the shift mount was rotted/loose which in 3rd gear would tap across the cat convertor
