Shifter Jumpping out of Gear
When I take off, when I go into 2nd gear, sometimes it does not go into gear, or it will jump out of gear. Or I have to force it into gear.
Is this a shift linkage problem, or a transmission problem?
Thanks

That sounds like your synchros in your transmission for 2nd gear. Does it do it in every gear or just #2? Either way, if it is your synchros, you'd be better off replacing the whole tranny rather than just one gear. If some are bad then more than likely, the rest of them are well on their way.
If im crusing in second, say in a parking lot, or if im just driving like my car is fast, (LOL), it will jump out of gear into neutral. Im still on the gas not knowing until the engine is reving up and the motor is racing. But yes just second gear.
Then it is your synchro in 2nd gear. This comes from high redline shifts into a particular gear, gear grinding, or simply a lot of wear. The faster the tranny and gears spin, the more accurate shifts must be to ensure proper change and transmission life. If not, the synchronizing mechanism and gears become damaged. The thing about replacing one sychro is you have to take the entire transmission apart to get to that gear. This will probably cost more than just putting a new tranny in. You should be able to get a manual tranny installed for $400-$600. Automatics are much pricier. Have a mechanic check it out... Good luck!
