starting problem
sup peeps, my '91 HB DX will not started, it'll started maybe 1 out of 10 times, sometime it won't even turn over, sometime it turn over but won't started. the mech. said there's oil in the distributor, I don't know anything about car stuff so do you guys have any suggestion? [:@]
oh, well I wanted to learn how to fix the car up myself and if you guys know any manuals or things like that that will help me out since I am soo clueless about it( fixing car) and the guy is just a mechanic, not my mechanic and he want almost a grant to fix it, which I don't have[:@]
The first thing is that you need to make sure the battery is charged. It seems like you are running down the battery by trying to start the car. It seems like the starter is fine and its turning the engine over. If you hear the starter turn and turn over at the correct speed (compare to any working car) then your starting system is fine and the problem is that your engine is not running correctly. The next thing to do is check spark. There are 3 things required to run an engine: air, fuel, and spark. The easiest of these to test is spark (we will ignore air). Pull a spark plug wire and hook up an old plug to it (or you can try touching it to a ground but using an old plug is better). Crank the car over. If you see a spark, then your engine is creating and delivering a spark. Next you are going to want to check fuel, which is a little harder to do. Spray some carb cleaner into the throttle body and turn the car over. If the car starts then you have a problem with your fuel system. Furthur diagnosis can be done after you have done the basic things. Also, read up on how engines work from HowStuffWorks.com or pick up a book.
ok
he told you that there is oil in the distributor which means that the rubber seal on the distributor is either broken or is worn. it is not that is not to hard to replace. if you go to any auto parts store and get a repair manual for your car it is about $15 it will give you detailed instructions on how to repair basicly every thing on your car.

unless there is a lot of oil in the dizzy,, that is not why car does not start,, i have seen many dizzies with some oil in it and car had no issues.......
also the price is OUTREGEOUS even if you do need a dizzy,, and as for fixing it yourself ,, i don't think that you can buy the inner shaft seal ...
if it leaks real bad and oil is pouring out od the cap you might have to replace the dizzy ...
If so,, buy a reman dizzy at a local part store and replace it yourself ........
but as AGENT says you got to make sure that, that's the reason why car does not start......you need to chk for lack of spark or fuel..
