Default starting problem

I just got a 89 civic DX and everything is very nice condition and it runs very well..
but after about a day of driving it, it started having this weird problem where sometimes randomly when i turn the key over to the starting spot, it doesnt start and nothing happends...
at first i thought my battery was dead but my lights and everything still worked perfectly fine, so i turned it off and tried again and it did start.
This has happend many times now, sometimes i will turn it over 3 or 4 times and nothing will happen and then on the last try itll start up perfectly.
if anyone has any idea of what the problem is please let me know.

This is usually caused by the starter itself. The second major cause is bad connections at the battery, or inside the battery. If you had a problem at the battery, all the lights in the car would go out when you try to start.

Since that doesn't happen, try jumping to the starter to rule out the key switch, clutch switch, etc. This is done by pulling the small wire off of the starter then using a test wire to jumper from the terminal on the starter for the small wire to the big wire (that leads to the battery) If the starter works, the engine will crank when you do this, so you must be sure the car is not in gear, with the brake set, and stand to the side so even if the car does move it won't run over you.

If you just get sparks and maybe a little clicking when jumping the starter, and the battery and big cables are OK, the starter is bad. It is typical for them to get so they start after several tries, but it will get worse until it never starts at all.
