when changing from 2nd to 3rd in gigh revs the gearbox makes a nice crunching noise, i read somewhere, i cant remember if it was on here(if so i couldnt find anything) or somewhere else, that changing the gearbox oil for ordinary engine oil would solve the problem, is this a good idea?? it doesnt sound like one to me! or is there any other kind of oil i could use which may help?

My friend had the same prob with his rex, we put some lucis in it and it stopped, try that, it may help if ur syncronizer block rings in the tranny aren't to worn out.

Honda sells special MTF that may improve shifting. They specify to use 10W40 engine oil normally. Don't use the heavy gear oil typically used in other makes of cars.

You can use normal engine oil for your tranny. When you drain the old oil, check for bronze flakes. If you see bronze flakes, those are pieces of the synchros. When you refill, I would use either synthetic oil or synchromax.

i swapped mine with normal engine oil, because its was crunching if i went from 2nd to 3rd over 3k revs, i checked it after i did it, same problem
so i drove to the UK from the netherlands and i ended up having a little off the lights race with him, NO CRUNCH?!?? it had dissapeard, i guess it just took a little while for the oil to work its way round the box but it did solve the problem and i used 10W40 engine oil, just some ordinary stuff, no special brand. worked a treat
