Default Towing all-wheels down

Honda Manual for my 2008 Civic/5spd states that towing all-wheels down should be limited to 50mph, max 35 miles. Does anyone have experience towing their Manual trans Civic behind a motor home? In spite of what Honda says, I can't see it damaging the car and its manual trans; it's just coasting behind the RV. It's assumed, of course, that the ignition switch is positioned to allow the steering wheel to free-wheel.

I really can't see anything wrong with going over 35 miles, with the exception of the odometer recording mileage during the trip, and the tires being used up. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Default Flat tow

I have to agree. I have noticed some abnormal front tire tread wear, though I am certain the alignment is fine. That could be explained by the car wandering some under tow. Regardless, I'm pressing on as is.

Thanks,

John

I have towed our 2007 Civic 5 speed Manual 4 down for about 5 years now. I have a battery quick disconnet because when the key is in accessories position it consumes battery power.

That's something I hadn't considered, but I'll look into it.

I would look into whether or not the transmission is being properly lubricated and cooled when being towed with the drive wheels on the ground. I know via hearsay that some cars this is the issue and the reason why I'd be cautious going against the owners manual. I'm never worked on the innerds of manual transmission, but surely some sort of pump is required to lubricate everything. If its not pumping while in neutral, it'd obviously be a problem...
