Mechanical Problems & Technical Chat If you've got a problem you just can't figure out, a noise you can't diagnose, or a check engine light that won't go away, ask about it here!

Valve adjustment needed I'm guessing.

Default Valve adjustment needed I'm guessing.

I have noticed a loud ticking coming from my engine for a few minutes after the first start of the day. Once the engine warms a bit it does quiet down a fair amount but it is still there(just not at a teeth gritting volume). The engine is pushing 270000kms and my guess is the valves have never been adjusted(some things aren't done where I live). I want to adjust the valves and would like to know the specs. I reasonably sure I know the rest of the procedure(I dumbed my way thru a headgasket job lol). Thanks.

Could be valve chatter. Check that you have oil.

I adjusted mine thinking it was what was causing my click sound. Turns out it was my alt. clicking on its way out.

Doh, thought I had the car specs listed as my signature, my bad. It's a 1995 DX with a D15B7 motor. Thanks for the link, I had downloaded the manual before but my hard drive crapped out.

I'll double check the oil but it was good last time I checked and it was changed not long ago.

I just put a new alternator on it less than 6 months ago so I can't see it being the problem (for $400 it damn well better not be the problem).

Thanks guys
