well thanks for clearing that up, my original issue was about the "vtec-e" see i am catching on, and when it should hit. I an not really into racing or tuning, but I do want my fuel economy back, and I am trying to find an original tranny from an Hx 5 speed, they are a dime a dozen but none of them are original Hx tranny, I can find Lx and Dx trannys but I don't know if the gear ratio is the same or at least closer to what I had. the d16y7 came witha similiar final ratio but I don't know what car those came in originally.

well it might be posible if you go talk to a tranny shop........ see how much they would charge to build you a tranny with the Hx gears built into your tranny....

its worth asking at least...

Can't you order an original replacement HX tranny from a Honda dealer? How much would it cost from them?

I have asked at Honda and at a tranny shop already and the prices are rediculous to rebuild a transmission to its stock specks with it already out of the car shops want about $1400. If they pull it and rebuild it they want $1900 to $2100 depending on the shop, I laughed and walked out, I have pulled a tranny and replaced it with another one, new flywheel and new clutch and seals in less than four hours shop labor prices are a joke, Honda wants $2000 plus for the tranny I can get a rebuild kit and a used tranny for less than $500 I just need to find the specific tranny, and do the work myself, I have been doing my homework....... i have come to the conclusion that a dx tranny is very similiar to mine and I know I can get one of those.

Wow, you must be a good mechanic to do a clutch job yourself. + Transmission. Yeah, labor rates suck. $65/hr auto shop quoted me $195 to install 2 front shocks. I wouldn't have thought about upgrading my suspension if I couldn't do the work myself.

Now I'll be extra careful with my tranny.

How many miles did your HX have before the tranny blew? What exactly went wrong with the tranny? How many miles do you have on the car now? I have 103,000 miles all original engine and tranny.

The car has about 160,000 miles on it, the original tranny went out at about 145,000 It wouldn't go into 2nd unless i slipped it in without the clutch, at the time i didn't realize it was just a bad synchro( i didn't know a whole lot aboutcivics and their tranny problemsat that time), and I could have kept my original tranny and just got a rebuild kit for it and did the work myself, I bought a used tranny from atarco and it went out in about 10,000 miles and now it won't even stay in 2nd gear, the first tranny was my fault I drove it hard and banged 2nd gear alot, but not on this one. I just got a p.o.s from Atarco and unfortunately for me it didn't go out in the first year so their warranty had expired. This last year has been a real B1tch when it comes to my car, 2 months ago I hit a huge pothole on the freeway in the rain and bent all four 17" rims and blew out two tires ($1050 estimate to replace). bought a new windsheild only to get hit with a rock 2 weeks later. And to top it all off I got a $390.00 speeding ticket on Thanksgiving day driving to San Luis Obispo, CA
