How long has the car been sitting since it was flooded? It's possible that the car cannot be salvaged as the water may have destroyed the engine, transmission, and electrical system. It's a risky purchase even at $300.
5 months about. he had he mechanic friend check it out he test drove it and said the he thought the engine wasn't running right but wasn't sure. and the guy doesn't have any money to get it looked at. so hes selling it...
I also agree that it's risky. The engine could be bad, and it sounds like an electrical nightmare. But, if you have $300 in risk capital and the car ends up being trash, you can part it out and make your money back. The bumper covers, fenders, headlights, tail lights, corner lights, trunk lid, etc could be sold off, but I dont know about that hood. A civic just has no business with a hood scoop IMO, much less two of them.
well if you want to go for it... just be prepared to unplug every electrical plug and clean them all which can be a HUGE PITA!!!!!
youd be better off buying it and going to a junk yard and buying the whole wire harness out of the car everything you can get for it..... mainly under the dash, engine compartment....
first thing i would replace is the computer..... if you rlucky the computer is just damaged and the replacement one might let it run right.....
flooded cars can be salvaged alright if they spend the time cleaning all the electrical plugs... only downfall is TIME since the flood.... the more corrosion on the wires the worst the problem is..... alot easier to fix a car that was just flooded rather than been sitting around for awhile allowing the corosion to keep spreading!
either way it is a risk..... BUT like said you can recoupe that 300bucks easy with selling the body panels and such..... alot of the car can be salvaged if you have the time to either attempt to repair or just gut and part out.... it all depends how much free time do you want to spend on it and if its worth the hassle for you either way....
