Default Wheel bearings....?

My car recently started making a whistling type sound at random intervals while in motion. It almost always does it while I'm in reverse. The tech that heard it the other day guessed it was a wheel bearing. I have also been told by someone that they thought it was the EGR valve. The MAINT REQ'D light is also on now.

I know the description is vague, but its extremely hard to describe. im hoping someone has had this problem before and can help me. Anybody know what it is or could be?

Thanks

if you have a CEL and it only happens in revers it is not a wheel bearing.

a wheel bearing is more of a hum noise while driving, and gets louder and louder as it starts to go out. so i can say 4 sure that its not a wheel bearing. my uncle's 2000 accord had one start to go and he drove it for about 4 months with a crazy loud hummmmmmmm. and you would not really notice it going under 10 or 5 mph its more sumthin u notice once ur goin. as far as the whistle i am clueless to that.

the maintenance required light has nothing to do with how the car's running
It automaticallly lets you know every 7500 miles, so you can get your oil changed and stuff, just a maintenance reminder since most maintenance shedules involved incrimints of 15,000
